Applied to Viṣṇu, this name affirms that He is the ultimate Prajāpati — the source from which Brahmā and all the secondary prajāpatis (the progenitors like Dakṣa, Marīci, etc.) derive their creative power. The Bhagavad Gītā (9.17): ‘"Pitāham asya jagataḥ"‘ — "I am the father of this universe." Prajāpatiḥ thus combines the ideas of fatherhood, lordship, and creative sovereignty in a single name.
