**Cosmic symbolism<br> ‘Ahaḥ’ (day) represents manifestation, activity, consciousness in its expressed state. Viṣṇu as Ahaḥ is the cosmic day — the luminous period of creation when the universe is manifest. The Bhagavad Gītā (8.17): ‘"Ahar yad brahmaṇo viduḥ..."‘ — Brahmā's "day" lasts one thousand mahāyugas (4.32 billion years), during which creation is manifest. This cosmic day is Viṣṇu's own expression — when He opens His eyes, the day begins; when He closes them, night and dissolution come.
