जो स्वभावतः शुद्ध, पवित्र आणि पापरहित आहे, तो पूतात्मा. त्याच्या सान्निध्याने मन, बुद्धी आणि चित्त यांची शुद्धी होते. तो स्वतः निर्मळ असल्याने भक्तांनाही पवित्रतेकडे नेतो

Adi Shankaracharya explains that Vishnu is beyond all qualities (as described in Bhagavad Gita 14.5–18). The Skanda Purana tells how Vishnu appeared as a pure flame in a cosmic fire ritual, purifying the gods' tainted offerings and saving the universe from destruction.
