PRODUCT OVERVIEW

A pourable, ready-dispersed way to formulate with silver zeolite

GPWS-10N is a water-based slurry containing 20 wt% zeolite silver antimicrobial powder, pre-dispersed in a weakly anionic aqueous carrier. Where a dry zeolite silver powder needs milling and wetting to disperse evenly into a formulation, GPWS-10N goes in as a liquid — stirred directly into water-based paints, adhesives, wax emulsions and textile finishing baths.

It's built for the same family of applications as Geocon's powder-grade zeolite silver additives, but for formulators whose process is already liquid-handling and who would rather avoid dry powder dosing, dust control, or dispersion equipment on the line.

Zeolite silver works on contact — protection depends on how much of it ends up exposed at the finished surface, not just how much goes into the mix.

Because the antimicrobial mechanism activates when bacteria contact the zeolite particles, dispersion quality directly drives performance: the more evenly GPWS-10N is distributed through the finished film or fabric, the better the antibacterial result. This is one reason a pre-dispersed slurry can outperform an equivalent dose of dry powder that hasn't been fully wetted out.

Independent testing to JIS Z 2801 shows the mechanism working as intended: in a treated acrylic emulsion paint, both E. coli and S. aureus populations fell to non-detectable levels within 24 hours, while the untreated control paint saw bacterial counts hold or climb.

GPWS-10N Application Industries

Where GPWS-10N Delivers Lasting Protection

🎨

Water-based paints

Stirred into acrylic emulsion and other water-based paint systems at 1.5–5.0% for sustained antibacterial performance in the dried film.

🔗

Adhesives & wax emulsions

Runs at a much lower 0.05–0.25% loading in adhesives and wax emulsions without disrupting bond strength or viscosity.

👕

Textile finishing systems

Compatible with water-based textile padding and finishing baths, imparting antimicrobial and anti-odour properties to fabric.

🧴

Coating systems generally

Suited to any water-borne coating formulation where a pre-dispersed liquid additive is easier to dose than a dry powder.

Key Performance Benefits — GPWS-10N
01

Proven antibacterial reduction

JIS Z 2801 testing shows E. coli and S. aureus reduced to non-detectable levels within 24 hours in treated paint film.

02

No powder handling

Pre-dispersed as a liquid, removing the dust control and wetting-agent steps a dry powder would need.

03

Application-matched dosing

Distinct dosage ranges for paint and adhesive systems make it easy to hit an effective loading without over-dosing.

04

Weak anionic compatibility

Designed to integrate into typical water-based emulsion systems without destabilising the formulation.

05

Consistent, controllable viscosity

A defined viscosity range at two shear rates gives formulators a clear target for process control.

06

Same zeolite-silver mechanism

Draws on the same moisture-responsive, contact-based antimicrobial action as Geocon's powder-grade zeolite additives.

Safety & Handling Information
💧

Dilute with water only

Dilute GPWS-10N down to the intended concentration with water. Once diluted, solids can settle out over time — use a mixer during use and storage to prevent sedimentation.

🔁

Pre-dilute in stages

When diluting the slurry or a binder containing it, pre-dilute at a 4–5× ratio first, then dilute further to the final prescribed concentration.

🌡️

Viscosity can drift

Viscosity may rise depending on ambient conditions — this does not affect antimicrobial efficacy. Stir well before use in every case.

🧤

General handling

Handle as a standard aqueous formulation additive: avoid contact with eyes, wash hands after handling, and follow your facility's standard PPE practice for liquid additives.

Storage & Handling Guidelines
🏭

Storage conditions

Store in a cool, dark location. Avoid high temperatures, high humidity, and direct sunlight.

🧊

Avoid freezing & heat

As with most water-based dispersions, avoid extremes of temperature that could affect stability or shelf life.

🔄

Re-mix before use

Sedimentation can occur on standing, particularly after dilution. Stir or re-mix before dispensing.

🔒

Keep sealed

Keep the pail drum tightly closed between uses to limit evaporation and contamination.

ANTIMICROBIAL PERFORMANCE

Reference data — JIS Z 2801

Acrylic emulsion paint tested with and without GPWS-10N at 2.5% dosage. Bacterial counts (CFU) measured at 0 and 24 hours.

Bacteria Sample 0 hr 24 hr
Escherichia coli No additive, acrylic emulsion paint 2.5 × 10⁴ 1.7 × 10⁶
GPWS-10N, 2.5% 2.5 × 10⁴ Not detected
Staphylococcus aureus No additive, acrylic emulsion paint 2.1 × 10⁴ 3.1 × 10⁴
GPWS-10N, 2.5% 2.1 × 10⁴ Not detected
ℹ️

"Not detected" indicates a count below 0.63 CFU by the JIS Z 2801 method. Results are typical of testing on the referenced substrate and dosage; independent verification is recommended for your specific formulation.

Everything You Need to Know

GPWS-10N
Frequently Asked Questions

Technical and commercial questions about GPWS-10N answered by Geocon's application specialists.

What is GPWS-10N, and how is it different from a powder-grade zeolite silver additive?
GPWS-10N is a water-based slurry — a zeolite silver antimicrobial powder pre-dispersed at 20 wt% in a weakly anionic aqueous carrier. Where a dry powder grade needs milling and wetting to disperse evenly, GPWS-10N is added directly as a liquid, which suits formulators already working with water-based paint, adhesive or textile-finishing processes and who'd rather avoid dry powder handling.
What dosage should I use?
Typical dosage is 1.5–5.0% in paint systems and 0.05–0.25% in adhesives — adhesive systems need much less because efficacy depends on the additive being exposed at the finished surface, not on total volume added. Exact loading should be validated against your own target log-reduction and substrate.
How should I dilute and mix GPWS-10N?
Dilute with water only, down to the intended concentration. Once diluted, solids can settle over time, so keep it under agitation during use and storage. If diluting the slurry or a binder containing it, pre-dilute at roughly 4–5× first, then dilute further to the final target concentration, rather than diluting in one step.
Does a viscosity change affect performance?
No. Viscosity can rise somewhat depending on storage or ambient conditions, but this does not affect antimicrobial efficacy. Stir well before use regardless of how the product looks on standing.
How should I store it?
Keep GPWS-10N in a cool, dark location, away from high temperatures, high humidity, and direct sunlight, in its sealed pail drum. Re-mix before use if any settling has occurred.
What antimicrobial testing supports GPWS-10N?
Reference testing to JIS Z 2801 on an acrylic emulsion paint dosed at 2.5% showed both Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus reduced to non-detectable levels (below 0.63 CFU) within 24 hours, while the untreated control paint showed bacterial counts holding or increasing over the same period.
