PRODUCT OVERVIEW

GP-200 GREY CERAMIC MICROSPHERES

GP-200 Grey Ceramic Microspheres are high-strength, fine particle ceramic microspheres manufactured from alumino-silicate ceramic compositions, designed for applications where mechanical integrity, dimensional stability, and durability are critical.

Unlike lightweight hollow grades used primarily for density reduction, GP-200 is engineered to deliver higher compressive strength and abrasion resistance, making it suitable for structural, protective, and load-bearing formulations. The grey coloration and controlled particle size distribution make GP-200 particularly effective in industrial coatings, oil & gas systems, construction materials, and composite formulations where performance outweighs aesthetic whiteness.

With a median particle size (D50) of just 7 µm, GP-200 provides excellent packing efficiency and film build in high-solids formulations — enabling higher filler loadings with minimal viscosity penalty compared to irregular mineral fillers such as silica or kaolin.

PERFORMANCE BENEFITS

KEY BENEFITS OF GP-200

💪

High Compressive & Impact Resistance

High-strength ceramic shells contribute to improved mechanical performance under static and dynamic loads — significantly better than soft mineral extenders.

📐

Improved Dimensional Stability

Rigid ceramic structure minimizes shrinkage, cracking, and deformation in thick-section and load-bearing applications, ensuring long-term part integrity.

📈

High Build Capability

Supports rapid thickness build in coatings, mortars, and flooring systems without excessive viscosity increase or sagging — ideal for high-solid formulations.

⚙️

Efficient Particle Packing

Spherical morphology improves packing efficiency, reducing segregation and improving uniformity — enabling higher filler loadings with less binder demand.

🌡️

Thermal & Chemical Resistance

Stable above 1,000°C and resistant to acids, alkalis, and hydrocarbons — suitable for harsh industrial environments and oilfield applications.

🛡️

Non-Combustible & Inert

Inorganic ceramic composition ensures fire safety and long-term stability with no chemical interaction with resins, binders, or curing agents.

⚖️

Effective Density Contribution

Controlled spherical ceramic particles provide reinforcement while contributing predictable and measurable density in high-volume structural systems.

💰

Cost-Performance Optimisation

Enables partial replacement of heavier, costlier mineral fillers and aggregates while achieving or improving required strength and volume properties.

Frequently Asked Questions

GP-200

Technical and commercial questions about GP-200 answered by
Geocon Products' application specialists.

What is the particle size of GP-200 Ceramic Microspheres? +
GP-200 has a median particle size (D50) of 7 µm, making it a fine-grade alumino-silicate ceramic microsphere. This fine particle size delivers excellent packing efficiency, film build, and smooth surface finish in coatings, adhesives, and composite formulations.
What is the crush strength of GP-200? +
GP-200 has a crush strength of 60,000 psi (approximately 414 MPa), making it suitable for high-pressure applications including oil & gas cementing, industrial flooring, structural adhesives, and load-bearing composite systems.
What is the difference between GP-200 and GP-400? +
GP-200 is the fine-grade variant (D50=7 µm) optimised for thin-film coatings, smooth surface finishes, and fine-filler applications such as industrial primers and anti-corrosion coatings. GP-400 is a medium-fine grade with a larger particle size, designed for construction chemicals, tile adhesives, and higher-build coating systems. The choice depends on the desired surface finish, coating thickness, and application method.
Is GP-200 safe to use and is it free from crystalline silica? +
Yes. GP-200 is an alumino-silicate ceramic product that is free from crystalline silica (quartz/cristobalite). It is classified as non-toxic, non-flammable, and not regulated as a Dangerous Good for transport. Standard dust precautions (mask/respirator) are recommended during handling. Full Safety Data Sheet (SDS) is available on request.
Can GP-200 replace talc or calcium carbonate in formulations? +
GP-200 can be used as a partial or full replacement for talc, CaCO₃ (calcium carbonate), silica, and kaolin in many formulations. It offers superior compressive strength, higher thermal resistance, and better abrasion performance. However, as GP-200 has a higher true density (~2.6–2.8 g/cc) vs hollow microspheres, formulations should be adjusted for loading levels. Contact Geocon's technical team for application-specific replacement guidance.
What packaging is available for GP-200? +
GP-200 is supplied in 25 kg HDPE-lined paper bags as the standard packaging. Jumbo bags (bulk bags) are available on request for large-volume industrial orders. Custom packaging configurations can be arranged for export orders. Contact us at info@geoconproducts.com for bulk pricing and packaging options.
